Learning Objectives
Blue Ribbon Cooking Camps teach how to take care of yourself and others when you are hungry.
We promote taking a sense of ownership of your home kitchen as skills are developed.
We created these camps for children who always feel “there is nothing to eat,” and for those who want independence in the kitchen
but lack experience and confidence. Our goal is to guide kids into feeling more adventurous and independent in the kitchen.
Classic cooking skills are taught by acclaimed professional chefs in order that students are prepared to make healthy,
tasty and interesting dishes. Students take instrumental roles in the planning and preparation of distinctive meals.
Consequently, they will be able to safely and tastefully prepare food with confidence, efficiency and finesse for themselves and those they care about.
History
Virginia Johns-Duppenthaler, Blue Ribbon’s founder, invented Children’s Cook Camps in 1995.
She had operated cooking schools since 1977 and was raising three children in Madison Park. Blue Ribbon Cooking School was the first
to teach international dining with a sit-down dinner party for children. Other kid’s cooking classes at the time only taught cookie-baking.
Now summers here in our waterfront cooking school remain devoted to teaching skills and confidence to children so they find success in the kitchen.
About our Instructors & Educational Approach
Our instructors, through hands-on classes, empower students to master exciting recipes as they experience new foods
and utilize mathematics, geography and science in real-world applications. An international cast of exciting food professionals from the
local culinary community, all of our instructors have a passion for teaching youth to enjoy the multi-faceted celebration of food.
A 7-to-1 student-teacher ratio ensures students work in small groups and get individual attention. The highlight of this comprehensive week
is our Thursday Graduation Dinner when students present their accomplishments to their own guests by preparing and serving a full four-course dinner.
